Trusting God Through Changing Seasons

There is something quietly honest about the way seasons arrive.
Some slip in gently—like spring, tiptoeing through the soil. You notice her slowly: a softer light, a longer day, a hint of green pushing through what once looked lifeless. There’s anticipation in the air. You lean forward, hopeful, ready to plant again… to begin again.
And then there are the other seasons. The ones that don’t ask for permission. Like the sudden turn from summer to autumn, one day warm and familiar, the next touched by a chill you didn’t quite prepare for. The light shifts. The air changes. What once felt steady now feels uncertain. And you stand there, almost surprised at how quickly everything looks different.
Life has a way of moving like that too.
There are seasons where everything feels like summer—steady, fruitful, full. You breathe easier. You don’t question as much. You build, you enjoy, you rest in what is. And somewhere in the quiet comfort of it all, you forget how quickly things can change. Until they do. And suddenly, you find yourself in a different landscape. A season you didn’t plan for. A stretch of road you didn’t map out. A place where the questions are louder than the answers.
If we’re honest, these are the seasons we resist. Not because we lack faith, but because we are human. Our hearts lean toward what is safe, familiar, and predictable. Even our minds are wired to protect comfort—to avoid disruption, to hold onto what feels good. But growth… rarely grows there.
Just as the earth must release its leaves in autumn, just as winter strips back what once was, there is a deeper work happening in us during these unexpected shifts. A work we often cannot see in the moment. A quiet forming. A strengthening beneath the surface.
Not everything that falls apart is loss. Sometimes it is preparation. Not every cold season is punishment. Sometimes it is protection… and pruning… and positioning.
The truth is, we don’t always get to choose the season we are in—but we do get to choose how we walk through it.
Will we resist it… or will we lean into what it might be producing? Because every season carries something:
Summer brings fruit.
Autumn brings release.
Winter brings deep rooting.
Spring brings renewal.
And none of them are wasted.
If you find yourself in a season that feels unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or even unwanted—know this: it has not come to undo you. It has come to shape you in ways comfort never could. There is a quiet invitation here. To trust, even when it feels sudden. To remain, even when it feels uncertain. To believe that beneath what you can see, something is still growing. You may not feel ready for this season. But you are not without what you need. Grace meets you here. Strength is formed here.
And God, in His faithfulness, does not abandon you to the cold—He walks with you through it, working in ways that will one day make sense, even if today they do not. So instead of asking, “Why this season?” Perhaps we begin to ask, “Lord, what are You growing in me here?” Because even now… especially now… something good is taking root.
