Forgiveness - The Choice

Choices, are something that we get to make every day, the whole day.  Most of the time we are not aware of the choices we make.  We choose what we think, feel and behave.  This is what we also call free will.  God has given us this unique ability to choose.  To choose from right or wrong, from good and bad.  The very famous scripture in Deuteronomy 30v9 (NLT) "Today, I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses.  Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make.  Oh, that you would choose life so you and your descendants might live! "

For me one of the greatest choices we are to make, on any day; is the choice to forgive.  One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is to forgive.  This is a hard and challenging topic for many, yet there are some that find it easy to forgive.  God has blessed me with the ability to forgive quickly.  And I stand in awe every time I face a situation, how quickly His love and grace allows me to make that choice; to forgive and move forward.

Not too long ago, I faced a situation of disappointment, which to me at that moment felt unforgivable.  I prayed about it and this is what I said to God: “Lord, I don’t know whether I can pass this on. This is hard.  Lord help me forgive.”  With this prayer and the thought of conviction that I am no saint, I repented for playing judge.  A few days thereafter, I reflected and worked through my own behavior.  I had forgiven and received forgiveness.

Not only do we need to forgive others but we should forgive ourselves. Failing to forgive others and ourselves will cause us not living in freedom nor our true potential.  We will stay stuck in an inferior complex just because of our lack of forgiveness.
Unforgiveness robs us from true freedom.  Unforgiveness results in resentment and bitterness, which bring about sickness and disease.  It creates negative thought patterns.

Choose therefore to Forgive, so that you can be forgiven.  Forgiveness brings inner peace and healing. Mathew 6v15 Jesus said that we are to forgive others so that our heavenly Father can forgive us our sins. For us to live in right standing with God, we need to live in forgiveness.

When we forgive, we give up our right to be the victim instead we become the victor!

As we prepare ourselves for the Christmas celebration, let us be mindful of the gift of forgiveness -God has sent His only beloved Son because of His great love toward us.  Jesus Christ died for our sins, forgiving us all our sins and bringing us in right standing with God our Father.  Let nothing and no one stand between you and God.

Sometimes prayer is not loud declarations or lengthy intercessions. Sometimes it is simply saying "yes" to God when everything in you wants to say "not yet." This post explores what it means to pray through quiet surrender — and why obedience itself can be the most powerful prayer you will ever offer.
